Pure

Pure

Finished in two weeks (sooner if I was monogamous), my Pure shawl by Cabinfour has become a new staple in my wardrobe. The simple texture knit in worsted weight is a match made in heaven.

I visited Rosehaven yarn store in the beginning of summer during a trip to Sandbanks. I believe they are the only store in Ontario that carries Quince and Co. and I couldn’t wait to see all the colors they had available. Pure was at the top of my queue for some time now and I’ve been wanting to try something new. A shawl in worsted weight fit the bill.

I fell in love with the colorway Canvas. A subdued light pink.

The first section of the shawl knit up in no time and that’s when I realized the finished dimensions (56″ wide x 20″ deep) are a bit smaller than what I’m used to. I ripped back and modified as follows:

Pure1

  • Added 3 repeats of Stockinette section for a total of 12.
  • Added 3 repeats of Textured section for a total of 10.
  • Planned to add 3 repeats for the Garter section as well but it quickly became apparent I wouldn’t have enough yarn. I stopped after 5 repeats and played a game of yarn chicken.

I almost won… 26 stitches left to bind off:

At this point, I had two choices 1) rip back 1 row and bind off on the wrong side of the work or 2) look for the ties that secured the skeins and spit-splice a million ends hoping I’ll have enough to finish off.

I went with #2. Thank goodness, I was a little too excited and left bits and pieces of the ties on my desk. A few had to be rescued from my garbage bin (it’s ok, there was nothing else in there)

Spit splicing

After spit-splicing, I gained an additional 50″ of yarn and had 10″ left after binding off the rest of the stitches. Isn’t that amazing?

Note to self for future projects – save those ties!

I finished the shawl in the car during our drive to a cottage at Prince Edward County. It was approximately 20 min north west of Sandbanks.

I’m so pleased with the way this turned out. The final dimensions after lightly blocking are 64″ wide x 22.5″ deep. I love it! So cozy and warm! I’ve got a new thing for worsted weight shawls 🙂

The lake was just 15 steps away from our backyard. We went canoeing, kayaking, built a campfire for s’mores, consumed copious amounts of sangria and sat under the stars at night. The views were breathtaking especially at sunset:

The whole time we were there, my husband and I kept saying it’s like we’re in the Ozark’s. Has anyone else watched it on Netflix? We can’t hardly wait for season 2.
